Welcome to Allendale Public Schools-School Psychology
Our mission is to assist and support students and staff in achieving academic success. This may include the school psychologist's participation in academic and social/ emotional assessments as well as providing data to plan appropriate interventions. Allendale Public Schools currently employs two certified school psychologists to service students in grades pre-school through 12th grade. Erin F. Pando, M.A., Ed.S. received her Bachelor's degree from Hope College and received her Master's and Educational Specialist's degrees from Western Michigan University. Jennifer L. Ludwig, Ph.D., S.Psy.S., received her clinical psychology doctoral degree from Purdue University and her school psychology specialist degree from Central Michigan University. School psychologists in Michigan must be certified through the Michigan Department of Education. School Psychologists have skills in the following areas as identified by the National Association of School Psychologists:
1) Participation in the development and sustainability of an early intervention problem solving model (RtI: Response to Intervention) to address student functioning in academics and behavior. Facilitates the use of data to drive instruction and decision making. 2) Assists with the creation, implementation, and training for school-wide behavior supports. 3) Attends evaluation and student assistance team meetings for students suspected of having a disability and then, if appropriate, conducts assessments to determine special education eligibility for students who are suspected of having a disability. Conducts re-evaluations on eligible students at least once every 3 years. Completes a comprehensive and thorough evaluation and communicates the results to parents / staff. A psychological report is provided to parents. 4) Works with the school social worker and may assist in conducting functional behavior analyses for students with severe behavior problems. May assist teachers with creating and documenting the effectiveness of behavior intervention plans.
5) Participate in and may facilitate staff training as part of an ongoing system of best practices for improving student learning and achievement.
If one believes that they require additional assistance for their student in the form of assessment, please contact your school principal. There are procedures in place at Allendale Public Schools to gather and analyze student assessment data in order to develop multi-tiered instruction and interventions
